论文摘要：自从中国加入世贸组织以后，中国的经济发展速度惊人，随着经济的发展，伴随着各种各样的商务活动。然而决定各种商务活动成败的原因有很多，比如管理，市场竞争力，创新能力等方面，但是委婉语在商务活动中的辅助作用也是不容忽视的因素之一。

　　委婉语一词源于希腊语，意为"好听的话","用好听的方式讲话".现代英语词典把委婉语解释为"用温和的，含糊的或者迂回的说法来代替粗俗的，生硬的或者直率的说法".其主要作用是协调人们之间的关系，一直发挥着独特的作用。作为一种广泛的社会现象，它存在于社会各层次，组织和行业等。

　　本篇论文基于先前已有的研究成果，探讨委婉语在商务活动这一特定领域的应用，分析委婉语在商务活动中发挥的作用：传达礼貌和尊重，试探功能，暗示功能，幽默和讽刺功能。作者借用大量实例，说明委婉语是以怎样的方式得以应用的。意义在于一方面强调了委婉语在商务活动中发挥的作用和应用委婉语的重要性，另一方面通过分析它在商务活动过程中的存在形式和应用方式，对在实际商务活动过程中应用委婉语起到一定的指导作用。同时，对商务英语的学习也有一定的帮助。

　　Abstract:Since China entered the WTO, the economy had boosted. As the development of the economy, various business activities spring out. There are many factors for the successful business activities, such as management, marketing competitiveness, creativity etc. The functions of euphemism in the business activities can not be avoided. Euphemism is very much a part of language and is used mainly to coordinate the social relations. www.dxs56.com

　　This thesis is based on the results of the former studies and focused on the practice of euphemism in one specific field-international business activities.

　　This thesis covers the functions of euphemism in the process of international business activities generally in four aspects: function of showing politeness and respect, function of probing, function of implying and humorous and satirical function. Under each function, a large number of examples are used to demonstrate the methods in which the functions of euphemism are embodied.

　　The significance of this thesis lies in first telling the importance of using euphemism in the international business transaction and then showing how to apply euphemism by analyzing the functions and presenting the forms and methods used in the practice. Besides, it is also very helpful to the study of business English.
